(Note to self, “the Sleepless” would make for a good cult name).
While I had a great time at last weekend’s wedding, I crawled into bed around midnight. And had to set my alarm for 4:15 a.m. to get to the airport for my 6:15 flight. Not the optimum, but more than $200 cheaper than the alternatives.
Sunday night I did not sleep well at all. What was unusual for me is that I then spent most of Monday catching up on sleep (in between ophthalmologist visit—no need for new lenses this year, yay!). Normally I take a 15 minute nap and I wake reasonably functional (whether that’s my preference or not), but I just slept. I did finish my new And column (on a familiar topic here, the resistance to equal rights for women), but that was all.
Then last night I got a late-night text from a friend on the west coast (my phone is my alarm clock, so I leave it on) which wouldn’t have been bad … except someone then texted my friend back with “Congratulations!” and hit reply all … and that woke up TYG .. and that woke up me … so no sleep until much later. Plus I seem to have some sort of a mild bug.
Despite that, i got a fair amount of work done this week.
•The rewrite of Impossible Takes a Little Longer is done except for the last chapter and a half. I’m pleased. Hopefully it will be finished by October.
•I read The Savage Year to the writing group and got very positive feedback, plus some useful suggestions for changes. I’ll apply the changes next month, then, if all goes well, finish it in July.
•I rewrote my flash fiction piece, Heads Up! and I’m really pleased with it.
•On the down side, I’ve still no idea how to fix The Day The Rabbits Started Eating People or Eye of White Cathay. I know they need something, but I’m still not sure what. Fiddler’s Black falls somewhere in the middle.

One thing that has been productive is trying to take a complete break during my morning snack rather than writing at the same time. I never get much done while I’m eating so this makes much more sense (ditto lunch). The effect was somewhat marred by calls and checkups on my Mum, who’s now in rehab (her partner, me and my siblings are trying to figure out what comes next). Prayers or positive thoughts welcome.
