A good week. Still can’t seem to get much done in the evening, but otherwise everything went smoothly.
•I completed a first draft of an untitled story set in a kind of movie universe. I’d held off because I wasn’t sure my first thought about a particular turning point was right. But when I looked at it this week, I had the same impulse (shift out of hardboiled films into horror) so I went with it. We’ll see what I make of it when I look at it again.
•I rewrote Never Call Up What I Cannot Put Down, and then started doing another draft. Doing it as a kind of horror/mood piece just wasn’t working it, so this draft will play it as a war movie, with magic thrown in.
•I finished replotting the next section of Brain From Outer Space.
•I received the edits on The Wodehouse Murder Case which will appear next month in Azure Valley magazine, available from TM Publishing. I made a couple of counter-suggestions, which they were fine with, and sent them back (they were, I should add, very easy to work with).
•I made a couple of small changes to Atlas Shagged based on last week’s writers-group feedback, and submitted it today. I also made a few fixes to Impossible Takes a Little Longer now that I’ve had a month to reflect on it.
•Having signed up a while ago to contribute to Cracked, I finally got around to submitting a proposal. We’ll see what happens.
•I read a rough draft of Now It’s Time to Say Goodbye to one of my writing groups, and got some great feedback (and general thumbs up).
•And despite slowing down mid-week, I managed to make my eHow quota:
•What Do I Do If I Buy a Home and the Sellers Are Not Moved out?
•Can One Person Get a Mortgage With Two Owners?
•How to Determine an IRA Disbursement for a Beneficiary
•What Is Common Stock Equity?
•How to Buy a House Together Before Marriage
•Can You Sell Your House After Doing a Reverse Mortgage?
•Is It Smart to Have a Mortgage?
•Which Type of Home Equity Loan Best Suits Your Needs?
•How to Evaluate Mortgage Lenders
•Does Homeowners Insurance Cover a Fallen Tree on my Fence?
•The Effect of Credit Card Debt on America
•Is It Bad to Have New Inquiries During the Mortgage Process?
•Is it Necessary to Pay Taxes on Life Insurance Distributions?
On top of all that, I actually completed more than two-thirds of my goals for the month, which is quite satisfying. I shall have to think of something to reward myself. I’m particularly pleased with how much I’ve curbed my non-essential Internet use during the work day, which makes getting stuff done a lot easier.
