Should auld linkage be forgot?

An old one I found today: Matt Barber, dean of the late Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University, insists the gay rights movement is nothing like the civil rights movement. Right Wing Watch reminds us that Falwell himself was a segregationist who hated the civil rights movement.

I also noticed, reading the piece, that Barber claims the era of fighting for civil rights is done. And he has a point, it’s not like police do anything inappropriate when dealing with minorities or get  outraged when they’re criticized for racist acts or statements. Or that firefighters in one community would refuse to help a black family. Or that some white evangelicals don’t like acknowledging racism (not a new problem).

•Oh, and the black community actually does protest black-on-black crime.

•Here’s something positive, a police chief who told a complaining resident that the police are going to respect the rights of protesters. Thank you, Chief Anderson.

•Charles Murray has dumped on blacks (with his Bell Curve, which argued black Americans are inherently less intelligent than whites) and the poor (it’s their own fault they’re poor), so perhaps it’s no surprise he’s also a rape apologist.

•When anyone in office announces America has to blow shit up because we don’t tolerate evil, remember we tolerate Saudi Arabia, where women drivers are considered terrorists.
