Ta-Nehisi Coates catches Republicans once again insisting rape won’t get you pregnant. And that restricting rape after 20 weeks isn’t an issue because who’d wait that long? After all, it’s not like they’re making it harder to get abortions in the first trimester or restricting access to birth control.
•A teenage girl refuses to stop fighting for abortion rights just because people call her a whore.
•A Muslim who’s also a religion professor writes a book about Jesus. Obviously, he must be biased against Christianity. Of course, any Christian is going to be biased about Jesus, but apparently that’s the OK kind (or as noted at the links, it’s assumed Christianity is the “normal” perspective).
•More waste and misspending turns up in Afghanistan.
•Sex scandals about adultery and sex scandals about harassment (or rape for that matter) are not equal.
•Fast-food workers are still striking.
•A liberal woman being considered for a judgeship? Repubs freak out, of course.
•Very low level analysts can search NSA collected data without much oversight. But the NSA says everything’s fine, so why worry?
•Echidne suggests the reason for labial surgery is porn.
•Some conservatives are once again proclaiming libertarian populism will save the party.
•LGM points out that if conservative opposition to Obamacare (or any healthcare for the poor) is the issue, Ross Douthat should be telling that to conservatives, not liberals (his point being that liberals should forget about fighting for abortion rights in Texas instead emphasizing better health care). More here.
It should also be kept in mind (as LGM has pointed out elsewhere) that conservatives who talk about improving the minimum wage or how Social Security protects people even without a minimum wage are usually on the side of killing Social Security (or Food Stamps, or whatever program is under discussion).
•The oil industry is upset that solar power might cut into their profits. Won’t government do something to help?
