Does my reach exceed my grasp or am I being nibbled to death by ducks?

I’m sure it won’t surprise you that with my loooong trip to Mum last month, I didn’t do so well on my goals for the month: Four out of 25. Under the circumstances, I don’t feel bad (duty before self and all that) but it was frustrating.
Now that I’m recovered from my trip, I’m slightly more frustrated about the month so far. I think I may actually be booking myself for more stuff than I can get done.
I tend to block out time on the assumption that a three-hour block of fiction will get one draft of a short story done. But I’ve noticed for a while it doesn’t seem to work that way any more. I suppose it’s possible I’m slowing down with age, but I’m guessing it’s more a combination of a)before I moved in with TYG I didn’t have WiFi so I couldn’t break up writing with web browsing. b)I’m working at a higher level and it takes more time to do a good job (needless to say I hope that bit’s true).
I’m also getting next to nothing done in the evening besides blogging and eHow corrections. Evening work isn’t essential, but it’s when I (supposedly) work on new nonfiction projects and read potential magazine markets. That’s stuff which will matter over the long term (I hope) so not getting it done does not please me.
Part of it is that my ehow rewrites are slower than usual. I’ve no idea why, but I think I can work around that.
I think the evening thing may also be partly that I have so many little things to distract me: Various odds and ends of work for Mum, stuff for the move, various other little tasks. They eat into lunch time and down time so maybe I’m just resisting carving out more time from down time. Which is a shame: I’d like to carve out more and put in some extra fiction time, but not just now.
I think that’s a lot of it: If I don’t take a reasonable amount of down time, stress gets in the way of work. So possibly once we move and once we have Mum’s situation a little more settled (he said optimistically) evenings will be more productive. Time will tell, I guess.
