On the ninth day of Linkmas—

Amazon workers who have to spend as much as 30 minutes undergoing a bag check are not entitled to be paid for the time, the Supreme Court ruled today. What matters is that it’s not part of warehouse employees’ job duties, not whether it’s mandatory.

•It’s not news that the US began torturing people in the 21st century, but the new report from the Senate confirms it. And much as I disagree with John McCain on almost anything, his speech on our failure is damn good. Meanwhile, the CIA whines about how it’s people will be targeted with death threats if they’re named as torturers. Which would be wrong, true: they should face trials and if convicted, long jail times.

•Ann Coulter explains (rightwingsplains?) soccer is a liberal sport because it’s a team game instead of emphasizing individual achievement and because icky girls get to play with boys and therefore it’s not a real sport (Coulter is a classic example of the right-wing antifeminist special snowflake). Coulter is what passes for a wit on the right instead of a lackwit hate-monger (she once asserted she’d be fine with Timothy McVeigh if he’d blown up the New York Times).
