The dog did nothing in the night time. I wish (#SFWApro)

(Title, as most of you probably know, refers to the lines from the Sherlock Holmes story “Silver Blaze”: “I refer you to the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime.” “The dog did nothing in the nighttime.” “That was the curious incident.”)

So this week started off pretty productive. I’m getting into a rhythm with my new dog-owner life, learning how much time I have and planning accordingly. Plus TYG was able to find some time to help oversee the dogs, which makes a big difference. But then Tuesday night as TYG took Plush Dog for his bathroom break, the Plush One found … a stick. On the lawn! Best stick ever!!!!! And lost all interest in vacating his bowels rather than stick play. Until about 1:30 a.m. when he decided he could no longer hold it in and began barking insanely to demand walkies. Which is certainly better than us waking up to find his crate full of poo, of course, but the total sleep was … sub-optimal.

And then Wednesday night, apparently hoping we’d fuss over him and take him out of his sad little crate again, he did some more barking. Ditto Thursday. This did not make for a good sleep experience at all, which reflected my performance during the day. Plus today and yesterday, Trixie was a little pushier than usual (she seems to assume that if she gets to my lap while I’m reaching for the computer, I won’t be able to put the lap desk down). So less accomplished than I hoped (as usual). Plus one website I was working on went down today when I finally had some time clear, so that didn’t help.

On the plus side, I stayed busy: when I wasn’t able to work on anything else, I could just set her on my lap and watch movies. Though Lord knows what will happen if Plushie wants as much attention after he de-crates.

I am now almost at 40 percent of the movies watched for my time-travel book—above 200 films done. A few weeks ago, that would have put me above 40 percent, but the past week I found another eight or nine to add, so I’m not quite there yet.

I shall take comfort in the fact I am learning to adapt, and hope I will continue to improve. And we are slowly training them: Trixie rarely humps my arm when I write, and her nipping is way down. There is a light at the end of the tunnel … and hey, I’m walking through the tunnel with cute dogs.
