A standard libertarian/right-wing solution to cutting down the evil lawyers suing innocent corporations is “make the loser pay all the legal fees.” Of course it won’t do anything to stop cases like this one, where a corporation sued over a negative Amazon review.
•Australia, meanwhile, wants to outlaw secondary boycotts—the ones that target consumers or suppliers of businesses.
•Tucker Carlson of Fox News thinks it’s disgusting and unmanly when women buy men dinner. I’m tempted to invite him out to Sage with me and TYG because she usually pays and I love making sexist conservative hacks vomit.
•I agree with Consumerist, forcing the IRS to use privatized debt collectors to collect back taxes is a bad idea.
•Some NFL cheerleaders would like to be paid at least minimum wage for their work. And they’re not being paid that much.
•Tennessee Republican Stacey Campfield compares signing up for Obamacare to sending Jews to Auschwitz. So, Fred Clark asks, what does he make of Israel’s far more generous health-care system, which even includes payments for abortions?
•A judge goes light on a rapist because the 14-year-old he slept with was “not the victim she claimed to be”—why, she may not have been a virgin! The kind of thinking I’ve discussed here. Meanwhile Rod Dreher claims that if college students hook up, you can’t possibly expect the guy to accept a no at a later date—if sex was okay once, it’s always okay, right?
•Jonah Goldberg, whose mother was once quasi-famous for helping expose the Lewinsky/Clinton affair, now thinks what’s said in private should stay private. At least if it’s a rich racist.
•If the Keystone Pipeline leaks, cleaning up the spills will benefit the economy! Of course, if it were something that didn’t involve the oil industry, like hiring the unemployed to rebuild our infrastructure, would we get the same enthusiasm?
