Lift voices and link!

Many conservatives were outraged that Brendan Eich stepped down as head of Mozilla because of controversy over his support for California’s Proposition 8. Alicublog wonders if they’ll be as outraged about censorship and intolerance regarding the Boy Scouts revoking a troop charter over a gay scoutmaster (he’s not actually wondering).
•Crooked Timber discusses the myth that the left wing is just as extreme and absolute on its positions as the right.
•Obama is apparently planning to use his executive authority to pardon some low-level drug offenders. A right-wing columnist freaks out.
•Whoever wins, the decision over Aero’s streaming-TV service could have a big impact.
•Some people claim traditional morality is unchanging. Slacktivist looks at the old movie production codes and disagrees (as witness, for example, that miscegenation was never allowed on screen).
•One of my recent And columns dealt with warhawks’ obsession over American manliness. Case in point: David Brooks thinks Obama doesn’t look tough enough in foreign affairs so he has a “manliness problem.”
•A recent article claims that tech adoption happens much, much faster today than 100 or even 50 years ago. Paleofuture says it’s not true.
•If a co-signer on a student loan dies, some lenders will demand immediate payment of the whole loan.
•Right-wing theocrat Cardinal Dolan claims you can buy birth control at a 7-11. Which as Echidne points out is not trueexcept for condoms.

•The Supreme Court has also endorsed a Michigan constitutional ban on affirmative action. LGM quotes from Justice Sotamayor’s dissent and links to more discussion.
Personally I’ve never seen any reason why affirmative action is so dreadfully objectionable if it’s fine to let in someone just for being an alumni’s child or coming from a particular geographic area. The standard argument is “racism” but if racism is so awful it should be singled out, why are policies that take race into account but work toward equality so bad?
