Once again, a little thunder stolen

As I mentioned a couple of weeks back (hence the title of this post), even the best-scheduled weeks oft go astray.
In this case, despite staying out late with my writing group on Tuesday, everything went smoothly until Thursday. I took a walk down to the bank to open a safe-deposit box (while I doubt I will ever need my birth certificate again, I’d just as soon keep it somewhere secure) and coupled with a bad night of sleep, that threw me off, a little. Then today, we had an electrician in (nothing major) which threw me off some more. Plus I just ran out of steam a little. Still the end result was only an hour short of my writing goals and a couple of Demand Media articles less than planned. Both within approved limits (I do allow a little slack time).
As far as actual accomplishments:
•Put in four hours work on Southern Discomfort and it looks good. Of course, I was working on the opening and the real problems crop up later in the book. Still it’s a good sign that I’m getting new ideas (a reporter snooping to closely into the town secret, for instance).
•I redrafted Fox and the Hedgehog. I may send it out to beta-readers next week. And it’s taking much less time with each draft which indicates everything’s coming together.
•I worked on Brain From Outer Space, which is another reason things slowed down Thursday/Friday—it’s at midpoint and the plotting is awkward. Not because I’m doing it wrong (this is about the point where I’ve given up on past drafts) but there are multiple plotlines and I’m not sure how they all work out. So I had to spend a lot of time just thinking and rethinking without writing, and I don’t always focus well when I do that (my bad!). It paid off though; among other things, I found a point where I’d completely forgotten what Gwen (one of my protagonists) was doing and placed her somewhere else doing something irrelevant.
•I put in several hours on my next movie-book proposal and it’s slowly taking shape.
•I read Fiddler’s Black to my writing group Tuesday and they liked it much more than I expected. They had several good criticisms which I will apply in my next draft, forging ahead with fresh confidence.
And now, as I need to whip up a quick dinner before we go out, I shall forgo detailing my Demand Media articles. So I’m done for the day, yaaaay! Bring on the weekend.
