No, not me. Republicans. Many of whom are still tying themselves into knots over the fact America didn’t embrace their utopian dream of women reduced to walking incubators for future children, rich people treated like the divinely favored ubermenschen they are and Muslims getting herded into the ocean (no offense intended to Republicans who don’t share those views—and there are still some left).
•Roy Edroso looks at right-wing bloggers’ reactions to their defeat. Unsurprisingly, a lot of them blame it on blacks and race traitors voting for the evil Kenyan.
•Florida Repub Allen West insists that he lost because of voter fraud—while simultaneously admitting there’s not enough fraud or error turning up to make a difference. Or as Edroso puts it, “The Democrats cheated their way to a legitimate victory!”
•Yesterday, I linked to a David Brooks piece about how Repubs should refocus on economic issues—which means continuing to focus on social conservatism (you expect sense from Mr. Brooks?). Edroso looks at some of the hot young conservatives (many of whom are 40 or up, actually) Brooks (in the same piece) imagines will rejuvenate the Republicans. Edroso is unimpressed. Paul Krugman laughs at the idea any of Brooks’ picks will actually challenge right-wing orthodoxy.
Oh, there’s also a wonderful quote in Edroso’s comments summing up Republican philosophy as “rage, sophistry and the lash.”
•Krugman also dissects an argument by Ross Douthat that mirrors Brooks: Economic insecurity helped Obama win, but that insecurity is the result of social disintegration, loss of church and traditional families.
•Charles Pierce guts a David Brooks column on moderation, so I don’t have to.
•LGM enjoys a pre-election column by Instapundit that gloats about how liberals are so isolated in their coccoon of liberal propaganda, they don’t realize how utterly Romney is going to triumph.
•Here a right-winger explains Romney’s defeat was all the fault of the “slut vote,”women who want their free birth control (which actually isn’t free) so they can have “as much hot alpha sex as possible without any consequences.” Oh, and women shouldn’t vote, either. Some response here.
