Two thumbs up

Despite having one story returned this week and Mum’s continuing worrisome health problems (I’ll be off to visit her soon), this was a good week.
My cough has completely vanished, but I only need cough medicine at night, so I’m not as zonked during the day. And I’ve had a flood of eHow personal finance articles, which I’m very experienced with, so I’m able to work them quite fast.
And taking 15 minutes in the morning for my break (as I started doing recently) definitely works better than trying to eat and write at the same time. I’ve also been better than usual about not letting myself get distracted by the Internet.
•I reviewed the criticism of The Savage Year from the writing group and a lot of it has merit. I started on the redraft today and hope to finish it next week. The biggest change will be it’s actually going to get longer, probably by a couple of thousand words. I usually try to trim, not expand (I lopped about 1,500 off before this last draft) but my fellow writers are correct, it needs more description and some more explanations.
•I reworked Heads Up! and I really like this draft. I’ll wait until I can get it beta read, but I’m very pleased.
•I redrafted Not Bound By Honor, shifting it from 1798 to 1788 (which is significant for some background details) and fixing some big plot holes. Still has a ways to go, but I’m on the right track.
•I started a redraft of Yellow Jack that I liked—but midway through I came up blank. I’m honestly not sure where it goes next.
•I reread my previous draft of Brain From Outer Space. Hopefully I’ll resume the actual writing next week.
•I sent three stories off, and got a positive response on one article query.
