(Title courtesy of Avengers Annual #2, a personal favorite).
Actually not a lot of rushing this week due to having to have multiple fillings. Assuming (correctly), I would be wiped out by the trip, I did three extra eHows Monday evening so that I could collapse Tuesday afternoon with a clear conscience (this proved more of a strain on my brain than I had anticipated, but it god the job done).
My dentist Dr. Robinson is awesome and unbelievably good on pain management, but as frequently happens, one of the fillings didn’t quite align and I had to go in Thursday morning to get it shaved a little. It didn’t take long, but it threw me off enough to cost me some of my eHows for the week. Nothing financially devastating, but annoying. Going out midday invariably throws me off more than I expect—I really need to find some way to fix that.
The fiction side of my week went well, though:
•I Think, Therefore I Die read well enough I’m currently satisfied. Maybe some slight tweaking next week, then I’ll give it a month’s rest and look at it with fresh eyes.
•Death Lends a Helping Hand—now renamed The Bad Samaritan—improved a lot after I reworked it this week. It still has a ways to go, but at only 3,000 words so far, there’s room to add a few more twists.
•My untitled short story (I refuse to consider “The Jew and the Khazar” as a title) set in 10th-century Andalusia is shaping up, but oh, so slowly. But adding agents of Prester John to the plot definitely helped.
•Some of the changes I’ve made to Brain From Outer Space really feel right, even if I’m not sure what the end result will be. I was also struck reading the previous draft from before I wrote the Applied Science stories and realizing a lot of it is quite good. Unfortunately, sticking with the old draft isn’t an option, there were too many places the plot didn’t hold up. Hopefully I can rework the bad without dropping the good.
And so the week ends, though not my blogging.
