McFarland is putting out a paperback edition of Cyborgs, Santa Claus and Satan at the end of the year, and I received my two sample copies yesterday. It’s just as much a buzz as getting the first copies was (if only TYG was around to help me celebrate). And very cool to read the positive quotes on the back-cover copy.
While I’m in a good mood, my compliments to two editors, Ann VanDeMeer of Weird Tales and Kelly at CyberWizard Productions (I checked the staff list and I couldn’t find your full name, Kelly, sorry!).
I wrote Ms. VanDeMeer to ask whether my short story Sword of Darcy, had become lost since the magazine accepted it several years ago, and it turns out yes, it had (they took it under another editor and another publisher). She took the effort to look and respond promptly, and even though she couldn’t find it, it’s appreciated.
Ditto Kelly, who responded within an hour of my asking about a story I submitted to a CyberWizard anthology a few months ago (still in the running, as it turns out).
Generally my experiences with editors have been positive, but there have been enough bad ones to appreciate the ones who put in extra effort.
