Alliteration again: Vanquished by the Virus!

The week started off so very nicely with a three-day weekend that both TYG and I took off for once. Of course, I did have that slight cough … that had turned into a nasty, snap-myself-out-of-sleep cough by Monday. So not only did I not get much sleep Monday night, I had to take time out to hit the doctor Tuesday. After which the prescription anti-coughing medicine left me feeling extremely zonked the rest of the week (and taking naps during the day several time). So the end result? Not so productive. And I”m still taking time to talk with Mum’s caregivers on the phone, which contributes it’s own distractions.
The end result was that having set this as the month to really push myself on completing goals … I fell short. If not for the Mum-worries and the zonked state much of this week, I think I might have pulled it up, though it’s not certain.
•I did finish the redraft of Impossible Takes a Little Longer this week. It looks good; I’ll revisit it in a couple of months to tidy up the most heavily changed sections, then finish it up in September. And I reworked Devil in the Fog and fixed most of the motive and plot weaknesses. Though I’m torn now—what I have at present is a classic mystery plot (though fairly tongue in cheek) but the previous version with a much shallower motive for all the murders is pretty funny. I’m not sure which one I’ll go with in the final draft.
Other successes this month include checking on any overdue submissions; completing the first draft of The Day The Rabbits Started Eating People; reworking Heads Up; shredding my out-of-date tax records; and submitting one magazine query. The two goals I most regret not doing are that I didn’t break the $2,000 mark on pre-tax income, and that I didn’t resubmit all my stories (June, I am definitely doing that!).
Speaking of which, would you believe three stories back this week? Mage’s Masquerade, And He Bought a Crooked Cat and Kernel of Truth, all without even a positive comment.
