A Clash of Titans: Me and the new Mac Airbook

So a few weeks ago, TYG informed me that given the sounds my Macbook was making indicated the mechanism was going to go, if not immediately, at least within a few months.
After consulting with my mac-savvy friends, I decided on a Mac Airbook, which arrived Wednesday. Once I had it up and running, I decided to use the Migration Assistance software to transfer over files and programs from my old laptop.
And may I say it’s a sorry comment upon modern America that the Airbook comes with iGarage Band and iMovie programs but no word-processing software? Or Quicken? Of course, YMMV.
Using Migration Assistant turned out to be a big mistake. The local Applestore said it would take them one to three days to transfer over everything; I assumed I could do it at home easier. So I started yesterday afternoon; I’d originally planned to wait until the weekend, so as not to use up writing time, but my good intentions fell by the wayside quickly.
After one glitch and then a restart I got up this morning to find the transfer still not complete. I decided to see if my flash drive could do better.
The answer: Yes. Took about three hours. I still have to transfer my iTunes and photos, and update Quicken, but damn, if I’d done this yesterday … But I didn’t. So there.
The good news is, I now have my cool new computer (her name is Childe in case you were wondering. Yes, I do name computers. And yes, they’re female, just like boats).
And now I need to shake off the effects of an unintended day off and get back to work.
