Ace Doubles were cool. Two novels, back to back; rather than a front cover image and a back cover with text, they had two front covers. Sometimes the two books would be linked by having the same author. The books below are tied together plotwise as well.
Other books were simply two books with no connection. Here are two from one of the doubles. First by Ed Emshwiller.
Second by Ed Valigursky.
I will make a wild guess that no, both cover artists being named Ed did not constitute a connection in the publisher’s eyes.
