Before RFK Junior made his decision to drop out as president, his vice president, Nicole Shannahan, admitted they were thinking about it, simply because staying in would hurt Trump (Kennedy’s anti-vax bullshit was winning over Republicans more than Democrats). Not that it’s a surprise: several months back one of his staffers said while Kennedy couldn’t win he could get enough votes to throw the election to the Republican-dominated House. And as Philip Bump writes, they share a similar worldview, that “there is no expertise or authority that should be given deference over what you want or believe to be true.“
Since his resignation, Junior announced his plan is to get off the ballot in states where he could hurt Trump. It seems that plan is not working out. I’m not sure Junior promising on X to fight the menace of chemtrails will boost Trump’s campaign either. However now that he’s a loyal Trumper, Junior is blasting out assurances that Trump wants to bring back the good old days when America “was beginning to confront its darker shadows, could acknowledge the injustice in its past and present, yet at the same time could celebrate its successes.” If there’s one thing Republicans do not want to acknowledge it’s injustice against anyone but themselves.
In other odious-person news:
Right-wing writer Rich Lowry insists Trump can win by making this election revolve around character. Is the candidate “trustworthy and strong,” for instance. I have to say unless Lowry is using them to mean “male” it’s laughable as Trump is neither.
Over in Florida Ron DeSantis is facing opposition even within his own party at the thought of commercializing state parks to include golf courses and hotels.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is raiding election offices in blue districts.
Candace Owens, who doesn’t believe the Earth is round, blames the Jews for killing JFK.
“An industry initially driven, seemingly, by libertarian instincts but which has never delivered on its economic promises will nonetheless be able to buy itself a huge government bailout.”
Moms for Liberty quoted Hitler approvingly a while back. That’s odious but so is the New York Times stating the quote was an accident. Nope; as the first link says, the quote was sourced to Hitler so it’s not like they heard it on the Internet and didn’t know the source. Shame on the NYT.
