Having Plushie on cage rest has been a big schedule disrupter, as I keep mentioning. TYG sleeps downstairs to be close in case he cries, so I can’t go down and make tea or grab a snack until she’s up (she might sleep through it but Plushie probably won’t, and if he barks …). After that, it depends on whether TYG wants to work downstairs with him or needs to go upstairs for quiet. And I take exercise whenever there’s a spare moment in all that. The day tends to become unpredictable and formless which makes it hard to schedule by the clock.
Last week I tried a new trick. I work six hours, not counting blogging, so I wrote down six hour blocks and filled each of them with whatever I’d planned to do for the day. No times attached. That way I knew what I was doing and how much I was doing but without trying to live up to an impractical schedule.
The results? I’m ambivalent. In theory it should work perfectly; in practice it doesn’t feel firm enough to bind me to the work. Is that something I can learn to get past? Or is it just not for me?
After next week when Plushie’s (hopefully) free of cage rest, maybe I’ll go back to the old style. Unless this week I finally get the knack of the new.
