New York, New York It’s a Wonderful Town: MOMA and Central Park (#SFWApro)

starry night

Our debate about what to do Thursday was largely settled when TYG discovered the Museum of Modern Art had Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” on display.

park again

This time we walked there (it was quite comfortable, instead of Tuesday’s freezing). Or more accurately we walked up Fifth Avenue past MOMA to Central Park, and then headed back to the museum. The park, of course, was in winter mode, but I can see why it’s so famous.

menaced assassinMagritte (“The Menaced Assassin.”)

chirico2The surrealist di Chirico.

And a lot more. And a museum cafe where they actually had waitstaff rather than cafeteria dining. Which given how sore our legs were was really nice.

Eventually we made it back to the hotel, lay around for a while and then headed out to the first get-together for TYG’s alumni event. She’d mentioned “some people” getting together; I assumed that it was going to be around 15 to 20 people, I’d probably get to bed around 10-10:30, and be up after plenty of sleep to go home and attend Illogicon (TYG would stay behind for the rest of her events). But no, it was actually the first event of the upcoming weekend so the attendance was, hmm, 60 to 80 people? And of course when you have a large group of people, many of whom haven’t seen each other since the previous year’s gathering, and none of them are working the next day … I packed it in around 9:30. TYG came in around midnight and unfortunately there was no way to get to bed without waking me, and then I couldn’t get back to sleep … so I was pretty zonked Friday.

But the story of Illogicon can wait to the next post.
