The first reason for the lack of glory being that I had a lot of little odds and ends to catch up on—a doctor appointment (all well), appointments to schedule, finding an arborist to cut down a damaged tree in our yard, working on taxes. That cut into some time.
And due to TYG’s ankle and the occasional schedule glitch, I’m still doing most of the dog walking. That ate up a lot of time, though she’s very, very appreciative that I can take so much of the dog-care off her shoulders when needed (this counts for a lot). This is considerably more walking than I usually do in a week and I’m starting to feel it in my legs.
Plus the dogs just seem a lot more needy this week. Plushie got to sit out on the sofa a lot while I was gone, and so he’s even more frustrated than usual when he’s in the pen. Trixie seems really, really happy to see me, which is lovely … but yeah, sometimes I succumb and start petting them when I should be doing something productive.
So, little accomplished.
On the plus side, I’ve started letting Plushie out of the pen during the day. Happily, a lot of the time he and Trixie are fine just sleeping on the couch with me, which I really love. Other times, of course, they’re rough-housing or chasing each other or I’m having to separate them when Plushie’s had enough and Trixie hasn’t. So this too takes a little more work, but in the long run, once Plushie can stay out of the pen, it should get a lot easier (no loud, lonely barking while I’m trying to concentrate). For the moment, though, I’m only letting them out while I’m watching movies. When they’re chasing they seem to treat me as just one more obstacle to leap over in canine parkour, and I don’t want my laptop in the middle of that.
I can’t say a week spending so much time with the dogs was a bad one, but it’s still somewhat frustrating.
