A good week for time travel (#SFWApro)

With none of last week’s distractions, I did well this week, even given I took Thursday off.

If you count one movie that I gave up on early (“This definitely isn’t time-travel. And it’s boring.”) I got 12 films done this week for the book. I also put in some work on the text, mushing some chapters together and shifting films around within them to emphasize themes and patterns, rather than just making it a straight list of movies. I ordered some more illustrations (poster for Escape From the Planet of the Apes, another for Quest for Love). Plus DVDs for two movies that seem unavailable through streaming services, Trancers IV (I watched I-III this week) and Timecop). I try to pace this stuff out so it doesn’t overload my budget in any given month.

So that doesn’t give me a lot to talk about, but it was productive. Reviews of time travel movies tomorrow. Regular work schedule to start Monday.

Which has me thinking, actually, about some of the things that can throw my new schedule off-kilter:

•Sleeping late. I don’t usually set an alarm as TYG sleeps later than me, but lately I’ve been sleeping later than usual, partly because walking the dogs ends up with us getting to bed later. So maybe I’ll try doing an extra hour in the evenings (much as I dislike evening work) so that I can get up an hour later without losing stride.

•Talk. On top of the actual caring for dogs, we wind up discussing them a lot. A surprising amount of time passes this way (I imagine something similar happens to parents).

•Mum has been in poor health lately, so I suspect I will be visiting again sooner rather than later. That will throw everything out of whack (if it has to be done, though, it has to be done). The price of being self-employed and not having paid vacations.

•Little shit. With the dogs to care for, arranging doctor’s appointments, checking with Mum’s assisted-living home, running the occasional errand, all seem like a bigger chunk of time than they used to.

But next week I have no major errands, and I doubt I’ll be going up to Mum that soon. So we’ll see how productive I can be. Fingers crossed I don’t embarrass myself.
