And yet more!

You may have heard that Satanists in Oklahoma want to raise a Satanist monument on state property next to a public one. A Fox News guest calls for them to be gunned down.
•There’s a lot more torture on television than in the 1990s.
•The first use of “God bless America” in a presidential speech? Richard Nixon, while fighting for his career during the Watergate scandal.
•Charleston now has a statue up honoring Denmark Vesey, who supposedly planned a slave rebellion (kill whites, steal a ship, sale to Haiti). Some people freak. No surprise. I’ve often noticed people who are very loud about the rights of the South to secede don’t seem to support slave uprisings much.
•One defense of the Arizona Right to Discriminate bill is that it’s completely insignificant. Not so! Of course, as Digby says, the same arguments about God Wants It were used for Jim Crow too.
•Josh Miller, an Arkansas legislator who received $1 million in Medicare and Medicaid care when he was crippled in a car accident, doesn’t think covering more people is a good thing, because they’re not people who really need it like he did. And they don’t work hard enough.
This is, of course, a staple of the right wing view. Like the politicians receiving farm subsidies who want to kill fodd stamps or the right-to-life women who get abortions, their case is different. They’re hard working! They’re moral women! It’s those others who are irresponsible or parasites!
•The same Echidne post also links to a Jezebel post arguing that writing about the Men’s Rights movement as anything but a war on women distorts the facts.
