Case in point, donating blood Thursday. I had a doctor checkup that afternoon, so I figured I’d make my donation too. Driving TYG to work and back so I can have the car takes 40 minutes to an hour out of the day (10 to 15 minutes each way, two trips there, two trips back). And the Red Cross is efficient, so it wouldn’t take long.
Unfortunately, the Red Cross had had to reschedule all the appointments it wasn’t able to make last week because of the snow, so I had about 30 minutes extra. Not a devastating problem but it does show how easily my schedule can get disrupted. Which is why I try to schedule more time than I think I’ll need to do things.
It’s also why running a timer (the free Lumina app in my case) works for me. If my schedule gets disrupted, I can see how much total work I’ve done for the week and how much I need to make up.
That aside, this was a productive week. I made my Demand Media quota, and I got up to around 16,000 words on Southern Discomforts. I did some work on Monday but managed not to feel guilty about not putting in a full day or frustrated at not taking a full holiday. I also dug up a couple of necessary pieces of information for our taxes, so that’s taken care of (our taxes are more complicated than usual this year so I’m not leaving it to the last minute).
Fiddler’s Black came back again yesterday, which settles a question I asked myself a while back—would shorter, contemporary stories sell faster than longer historical ones? Apparently not.
And that was pretty much it.
