I think this week’s a loss (#SFWApro)

But for a good reason.
Last Saturday, I flew up to Washington to visit my Mum (she lives in Maryland, but in the Metro area). She’s totally overdue for a visit and as my sister pointed it out it would be nice to see her when we didn’t have medical and other problems to deal with (case in point). I’ve taken Amtrak in the past, but the flight was only marginally more expensive and a lot quicker. After a lengthy Metro trip (complicated by my getting off at the wrong platform but realizing it before I left the station) in the freezing cold (so glad I brought my heavy clothes) I arrived Saturday afternoon with plans to leave Tuesday. Then I’d maybe do a light day Wednesday and a full day of work Thursday and Friday.
Of course we know what happened Tuesday don’t we?
Yep. Snow. I’d picked an evening flight to maximize the time with Mum, but about 1 pm it was rescheduled for 6 am the next morning. Which I rescheduled for 1am early afternoon because there’s no practical way to get to the airport from Mum’s independent-living place that early.
So Wednesday morning I left, counting on getting various odds and ends wrapped up after I got home. The taxi got to me only a few minutes late, the Metro moved smoothly (and with less wait—my trip out was off-peak hours so the waits were longer) and I arrived at the airport. Finally I got some good tea—the teabags I brought had run out so I’d been living for two days on Mum’s Lipton’s. And I hate Lipton’s.
After refreshing myself at Starbucks I got to the gate … and learned there’d be a 15 minute wait. Instinctively I knew that would not be the end … and sure enough, we didn’t get off the ground until 4 pm. While I’m usually fairly good at airport waits, I was tired, stressed, didn’t have anywhere good to get tea (it was a wing of Ronald Reagan Airport with no coffee shop) and I had a headache with no aspirin.
Finally we took off. And I landed home. Bleeding. I’d flight-checked one of my bags and as the crewperson handed it to me, something he was wearing cut me. Happily when I stopped for tea, the sales clerk provided me with a bandage.
Then TYG picked me up, took me home and made me pasta for dinner. And I felt a loooot better. Mum’s food options are kind of limited, so I hadn’t been eating as well as usual. I’d brought trail mix, but not enough to resist downing junk food and not-so-healthy microwavable meals.
Anyway, when I got up today I knew I wasn’t going to be on point. I met a couple of deadlines, but mostly played catch-up on stuff I needed taking care of (bills, mail, cooking, leftover stuff from Mum—though I’ll be dealing with that into next week, probably). So yeah, not productive.
I should be back in action tomorrow. Remaining issues will be worked into the days ahead when possible.
