I did get my writing done for the day (or most of it) but that doesn’t leave me with much left for thoughtful blogging.
•I may have blogged about this new right-wing book sneering at “white trash” before. But I’ll link to it again, if only to point out that insulting people for having diabetes is, well, as cheap and tacky as Charlotte Hays thinks poor whites are. And I love the reviewer’s comment about “right-wing smugness born of the conviction that one’s willingness to express common prejudices is a sign of free-thinking audacity.
•Here’s irony for you. Federal employee insurance doesn’t pay for abortions. But right-wingers insisted Congressional staffs should be covered by Obamacare, so they can now buy insurance policies that cover it.
•One of the reason for the housing meltdown was that banks issued a lot of mortgages they knew borrowers couldn’t repay. No longer allowed.
•A new court decision restricts the right of employees to sue their employer.
•I linked a few days ago to a new case challenging the Affordable Care Act’s contraceptive mandate, filed by a Catholic order of nuns. Turns out their objection isn’t that they have to abide by the mandate, it’s that they have to fill out forms saying so.
Still running slow
