A couple of minor observations about Dragoncon

Lots of kilts, utility and other (including a Dalek-design kilt). As TYG says, probably more than you’d find in the same number of square miles of Scotland.
And a fair number of pipes in the smoking areas. I’m not sure if it’s just a statistical fluke caused by the crowd, or if cosplaying steampunk and Tolkien are a gateway (as pipes can be part of the costume, I imagine for smokers using them might seem a natural jump), or something else.
