As I’ve done before, I decided Monday evening I’d done enough Demand Media writing this month and switched to other matters. I’m definitely getting better about adapting to such a radical shift in my schedule and not wasting time (not perfect, but much improved).
•I finished the rough-draft for the proposal for my next film book. A finished version goes off next month.
•I completed my next And column, though it’s not up yet. I also got a rough draft done on the next one.
•I started two new stories, both based on ideas I’ve had floating in my head for a while. I don’t know if/when I’ll finish them or even work more on them, but I seem to have the impulse lately to get these old ideas into play.
•I also worked on a story challenge one of my writing groups set up (each person writes a concept/scene for a story and someone else takes it). I can’t say this approach works very well for me, so I doubt I’ll try it again.
•I tackled various other nonfiction projects and queries, which I’ll mention in more detail if they bear fruit down the road.
My personal schedule was a little crazy, but doing relatively little fiction was a conscious choice for once, rather than getting distracted. I really wanted to get the proposal drafted this week and it took more time than I anticipated, but I’d allowed myself the time. I’m glad I did.
And on that note, bring on the weekend.
