They had the perfect plan—but Murphy stole their thunder!

Title from the trailer for the forgettable 1983 movie, Blue Thunder, mostly to reflect that even good plans sometimes come a little askew.
Overall, though, the scheduling changes I mentioned last week are working very well. I set an hours-per-week quota for each week this month and made this week’s hours (though just barely). And I was able to confine my working hours largely to the days and leave evenings free, which I find very relaxing.
I did have to make a couple of schedule changes to adapt to surprises. One good: A writer friend of mine invited me to a Thursday afternoon writers’ group. As it happened, TYG had a social event Wednesday that kept her out late, so I put in some extra time writing to justify the afternoon off (convenient that).
The other, not so good: the engine light came on today, and as I don’t have to answer for my time to an employer (except myself), I took it in to get checked out (much as I usually deal with the repair people who come by the house). As it turned out, it was nothing (a sensor goes off if the gas cap is a little loose) but it sucked about 90 minutes out of mid-day. Though I managed to squeeze in almost everything, just the same.
More specifically:
•I started work on the proposal for my next movie-reference book (I lost about a third of the time I’d blocked out for it today, but I can make it up).
•I finished a third draft of The Fox and the Hedgehog, my new Monster Earth story. I don’t see any problem getting it done by the end of September, though I may have to beef up some of the monster fight scenes some.
•I redrafted Fiddler’s Black. It’s about ready for some beta-reading, I think, just to see if I’m on the right track.
•I got another 5,000 words done on Brain From Outer Space. It’s going a lot slower as I’m forging more new material (instead of just cut-and-paste to rearrange earlier scenes), but I’m at the halfway mark (40,000 words) and I haven’t hit the “Wait this isn’t working” wall I did on previous drafts. So, yay!
Demand Media articles done (and fully accepted—I did a bunch more than haven’t finished processing yet)
•A Partner’s Withdrawal of Assets From a Limited Liability Partnership
•How to File Income Tax for a Multi-Owned Business
•Can a House Be Sold Without Clearing the Title?
•Foreclosure Effects on 1st Mortgage & 2nd Mortgage
•What Is the Liability of a Resident Agent for an LLC Company?
•Can Officers of an S Corporation Be Sued for Product Liability?
•Liability After the Selling of a Sole Proprietorship
•Can I Claim Mortgage Interest Accumulated on Taxes if Separated?
And now I’m free for the evening, waa-hoo! Though “free” includes a spot of overdue cleaning.
