Going slow today, and much left to do, so here goes:
•Digby ponders how the Washington press keeps insisting the only real problem is that Obama’s not bipartisan enough.
•FAIR recounts NPR’s efforts to find a millionaire who says he won’t hire people because of taxes. Astonishingly enough, they found nada.
•Glenn Greenwald asks how Iraqis supporting attacks on the troops occupying their country constitutes terrorism.
•He’s a star football player! We can’t arrest him!
•The White House backs off from a proposal to restrict student aid to programs that promise jobs but don’t deliver.
•Fraud in the housing industry? Even free-market worshipper Alan Greenspan admits it. Meanwhile, a writer in the New Yorker asks why, if it’s unacceptable to let homeowners walk away from their mortgages, businesses get to do it?
•Chuck Colson exists in a parallel world where Christians are terrified to speak up against gay people. An even further-right zealot demands we outlaw both homosexuality and fornication. Steve Benen notes that the predictions repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell would destroy the military turned out to be bullshit——but the media will still treat McCain and the other fearmongers as if their opinions on such things were valid.
•Newt Gingrich celebrates our freedom not to have long vacations. Although the Daily Howler argues his statements about putting kids to work in schools aren’t as outrageous as described.
•Glenn Greenwald says it’s a good idea to speak ill of the dead.
•Who cares if states can’t afford street lights and gravel roads? They still have the money to litigate anti-abortion laws.
•Slacktivist discusses why churches lose younger members.
•Roy Edroso reports on how Ron Paul became the small-government, free-market champion rightbloggers hate.
•Newt Gingrich explains that he has the right to ignore court decisions if he doesn’t like them. But Obama doesn’t. Oh, by the way, Newtie, the fact that Lincoln opposed the Dred Scott decision is irrelevant——”opposing” doesn’t mean “overturning.” (so apparently Gingrich is ignorant of basic word meanings and history).
When the going gets tough, the tough get links!
