My time, considered as a helix of semiprecious stones

(Which is to say I’m tired of weekly reports that just say “good week!” or the like so I figured I’d steal a title from Samuel Delany).
I’m moderately pleased with this week’s work. Which is only to be expected when I’m doing mostly new and unrefined stuff.
One for Sorrow, Two for Joy frustrates me. I now understand the protagonist and why he bears all the world’s secrets, but I don’t know what to do with him. Yet.
Number of the Least looks really good. I’ll probably ask the writing group what they think of it at our next meeting.
Helping Hand of Death needs work, but it’s no worse than most of my second drafts (and as noted in an earlier post, I know what it needs).
•I think I’ve finally figured out how to fix the problems with Salad Days. If the legendary “sisters of steel” are actual half-sisters (by their father’s affair) it completely changes the relationship; everything moved much better in this draft. The ending still doesn’t work, and I still may need to cut stuff, but I think I’m making progress.
Brain From Outer Space—hmph. I got this week’s writing done (about 4,000 words) but the new stuff feels like—well, new stuff (as I’ve mentioned several times, first drafts are not my strong suit). The tactic of planning last week what I need to write this week was a big help, but I still don’t know where it’s all ending up (which could mean it all ends up in the wrong place). However, I don’t see any better approach.
•I think I’ve found markets for both Original Synergy and Love That Moves the Sun.
