Short stories

Sword of Darcy came back. Sigh. I keep wondering if the whole Jane Austen angle now looks like I’m ripping off Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, even though I was there first.

On the plus side, the first draft of Voice of the Lobster, the second Big Pulp story, went better than I expected. My ideas for this one were much vaguer than Atoms for Peace when I started that, mostly that Dani is doing her best as a doctor to save lives when the mutant Devilfish invade Boston. After a slow mental start, it took form as a story about the people trying to keep everything running while the Army and the scientists attempt to figure out how to stop the monster.

If it seems odd to start this one when I’m only at the first draft of Atoms for Peace—well, suffice to say, I won’t be able to work enough rewrites in if I wait until the first story is finished completely (as I’ve said before, I need a lot of drafts to make a story usable). And it’s not a direct sequel, so continuity isn’t much of an issue.

And in case you were wondering, I’ll begin #3 in December. No idea of the title yet, though.
