The funniest writing advice I’ve ever heard

There have been lots of jokes written over the years about how to write a successful, guaranteed, sure-fire best-seller. My favorite (from an issue of Writer’s Digest—I don’t know the original source) is a proposed guaranteed, sure-fire attention-grabbing opener:

“‘Take your hand of my knee!’ the Duchess cried to the Emir, who’d bribed the Concorde attendants for the seat on the plane next to hers.”

There you have it: In one paragraph there’s sex, corruption, a glamorous setting, aristocratic protagonists and conflict. Can’t miss!
