Then one day she sat on the bookshelf next to a book whose title matched her fur colors, and so obviously she got the name of the female lead. She never sat on that set of shelves again. Smart girl. She did have one empty shelf elsewhere she liked to tuck herself into, so the Mr. got out the label maker and put the Dewey Decimal number for “cats” on it.
It was an SF book, so the next year at Worldcon I showed a pic of her to the author, who was amused/pleased and autographed it.
What was the book? Love that story.
