Some lines shouldn’t be crossed. Many Republicans disagree.

To paraphrase Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin (I don’t have a link, sorry), there’s apparently no line Trump will cross that will turn elected Republicans against him. Not making an implied threat against President Biden. Let alone lashing out not only against judges on social media but their families. He’ll encourage as much violence as he thinks he needs to stop the cases against him. And against the people who investigate these threats.

But hey, Jesse Watters of Fox News thinks the threats are justified because Trump wants a different judge. Somehow I don’t think Watters would say the same if someone were threatening Clarence Thomas’ family to get him to recuse himself … Another talking head, Charlie Hurt says it’s fine if Trump lies about meeting a murder victim’s family — it’s just his way of showing how much he cares. Ben Shapiro says jailing Trump “might backfire on Democrats badly” furthering the lie that it’s a political persecution, not the legal system at work. Hell, if anyone else had violated their gag order, they’d already be in jail.

Even when it’s not Trump-instigated, Republicans defend right-wing terrorists. Just as they’re cool promoting lies the 2020 election was stolen. Or embracing legal theories by non-lawyers. Or even the laws of Gondor in Middle-Earth. And yes, we should definitely take threats of violence — from Trump or any of them — as deadly seri0us. Because they are.

Trying to overthrow the government? They’re still trying to pretend the Jan. 6 attempted coup was an FBI operation. And they’re already agitating to give him a third term if he wins in 2028. If they can’t do it legally and he just stays in office — and I guarantee he’ll try — they won’t say boo. After all, a second Trump term would allow them to remake America to suit their anti-American fantasies.

Nor will they object to Trump’s increasing gibberish lies such as his supposed gaffes being Dems altering video with AI or that Hilary Clinton destroyed her emails with acid.

It’s not as if they bring any ideas to the table to compensate. They don’t want the government to rebuild the Key Bridge. Not even if it’s “feds do it now, collect from the ship’s owners later” I assume that’s so that the disruptions will worsen the economy and piss people off against the Biden Administration. But it might also be the raving political paranoia that makes them think there has to be a reason beyond a really big, heavy ship hitting a bridge.

Senate candidate Eric Hovde wants to charge the overweight more for healthcare. Republican State Rep. Jennifer Decker in Kentucky claims her white father was a slave so black people should stop whining! Minnesota State Rep. Warren Limmer opposes a law for safe gun storage to fight off hostile cows. David Brooks, who never has good ideas, equates Trump’s threat to democracy to the threat of radical college leftists. Tommy Tuberville goes with a classic: Democrats are Satanists. Rep. Chip Roy repeats the now standard Great Replacement Theory. There’s Ron “anti-vax” DeSantis making measles great again.

As they can’t win they’ll continue to try getting rid of Democratic votes. And trying some more.

Republicans will end American democracy if they can because it’s getting harder to win while being fascist misogynists.
