When right, as the saying goes, we should work to keep it right. When wrong, we should work to put it right.
The problem, of course, is that we don’t all agree on what the right and wrong direction for America is.
I’d say something deeper but it’s a holiday. Have fun, everyone who’s off work. Have a good day at work if you’re not. Let’s hope we can steer this country in the right direction: greater equality, greater decency to each other, reduced suffering, fixing the problems that keep us from being the best USA we can be.
In the words of Italo Calvino, there are two ways to deal with the injustice, cruelty and unnecessary suffering of this world. “The first is easy for many: accept the inferno and become such a part of it that you can no longer see it. The second is risky and demands constant vigilance and apprehension: seek and learn to recognize who and what, in the midst of inferno, are not inferno, then make them endure, give them space.”
