So what did I do with those gift certificates? (#SFWApro)

I know, you were probably all going crazy wondering. So …

1)My iTunes gift certificate from TYG:

This went on music: the 20th Century Masters album of Dusty Springfield, a Best of the Moody Blues album and the score for the musical A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. The latter is a fun show (I had a supporting role in a community theatre production around 25 years ago), though listening to the music, it’s startling to realize how sexist it is: the female lead’s song “Lovely” is quite specific that she has absolutely nothing to recommend her but her looks (no talent, no skills, no brains).

2)Amazon gift card from my bro.

spectre1As I have no shortage of books, I went for comics TPBs instead. BPRD Flesh and Stone which I’ve read but didn’t own; Frankenstein Underground, a Hellboy spinoff; and the first volume of the John Ostrander/Tom Mandrake Spectre series from the 1990s (cover by Tom Mandrake, all rights with current holder). DC has finally started issuing this in collected form—I don’t think anyone’s ever done such a remarkable job on the concept of the Spectre as a divine avenger of injustice.

Plus an AMC movie gift certificate for me and TYG—no idea what we’ll use it on—and one for California Pizza Kitchen (I don’t know, maybe … pizza?)

So now you know. And knowing is half the battle.
