Which once again drives home how much life has changed since meeting TYG.
I used to set a lot of goals on my birthday, as I’ve mentioned before. But quite aside from using the 101 in 1,001 approach to goal setting (pick 101 goals on New Year’s and work on them over 1,001 days), a lot of my Big Goals were drawn from being frustrated. Minimal money. No love life. Now I have TYG and everything feels better. I also make more money, and I have the advantage of being part of a two-income couple. No way I would ever co-own a house or a car otherwise.
I also have much more time to spare: I was getting much, much too stressed timewise during my last couple of years before moving up here. As Freedom News cut our pay, I took on more and more paying gigs to make up for it and that got tiring (especially as I didn’t let go of my fiction writing).
So as with last year, my goals are pretty simple. Stay healthy. Stay a full-time freelancer. Continue to have a wonderful marriage. The last one’s a done deal, I think, but the other two can always be undone by chance and circumstance. More specific goals (sell more fiction, write more fiction, sell more magazine articles) I set elsewhere (the 101 in 1,001 thing).
I do want to add to our social life here some (working on it) and travel a little more (that too). I’d planned to visit some friends out of town this weekend (TYG had a schedule conflict) but that didn’t quite work out. However there’s lots of the year ahead.
I know tomorrow I’ll be back to writing hard, finding new markets, setting more detailed goals and planning my schedule. But it’s lovely for one day to just to sit and feel life is good.
Why yes, it is my birthday (#SFWApro)
