Politics. Sigh

We live in a country where the guy Republicans labeled the most liberal president in history refuses to prosecute torturers (even when they became murderers); prefers to keep alleged terrorists locked up for life in violation of habeas corpus to putting them on trial; and claims the authority to assassinate American citizens who haven’t been convicted of any crime. Wonder what a right-of-center president would be like?
The Republicans, meanwhile, are so far to the right, Reagan is actually to the left of the current crop. He negotiated with our enemies (and was blasted as an appeaser for it); signed a treaty making torture a crime; and prosecuted terrorists in civilian courts. Much as 21st century Repubs invoke him, they’d never vote for him.
