Incremental improvements

One of the side-effects of having my iBook down and out for those few weeks was that for the first time in ages, I went in to work each day without carrying a laptop satchel along with my lunchpack, my backpack and (usually) my travel mug of tea. I liked it. It’s always been frustrating lugging around so many items, but putting my laptop in my backpack or everything else in my satchel wasn’t good for me, and my body let me know (it ranged from uncomfortable to outright painful). So I decided to use the small rolling suitcase I bought for travel and see if that worked better. It did! Bulky, to be sure, but not as cumbersome as the satchel/backpack, easier to carry and move, less strain, and since it’s not bouncing around on my back, less damage to any contents. Plus it’s quite capacious. It’s too bulky to be used for much besides work—when I go out shopping, I switch stuff to my backpack—but I think this may be a permanent change. So far the only problem it caused was the time I switched my wallet to my backpack, then never switched back, and realized the next day that I’d gone to work without my wallet.
