McFarland accepted my proposal for Infiltration and Paranoia in the Movies (hopefully we’ll come up with a cooler title). They want more photos than I’d expected, which will add to my expenses, but I can live with that (and they’ve finally explained some details about photo rights that will make things much easier).
Even though this probably won’t work out as profitably as the Atlantic money-management book I did last year (which had no expense on my end) I’m much more excited about it. It’s a much more fun topic after all (pod people! The Red Menace! Islamofascists! Satanists! Stepford Wives!), and since it’s mine, I’m a little more passionate about it. And the timeframe won’t require me to drop fiction from the schedule.
(I should clarify, by the way, that McFarland is not a vanity press, doesn’t charge authors fees and does pay its writers. The “expenses” refers to stuff like buying DVDs, printing up the manuscript when it’s done and buying photo rights)
My immediate priorities include starting the photo search and upgrading my Netflix membership so I can start ordering movies.
Wish me luck!
They like me! They really like me!
